Work in Progress Wednesday

Happy new year!

I have a few happy projects i am working on right now. First is my spring table topper (24×24).

I have quilted straight lines around the outside (in the green). I used a variegated thread (Coats & Clark 9312) and dense stitching. I plan to quilt the center in a large scale stipple or meandering pattern. I think the texture differences will really pop.

The back is pieced with the scraps from the front.

It is bound and on my table, but since I am still working up to finishing the quilting, it will keep its WIP status.

I find i gravitate towards super dense stitching. FMQ and walking foot… everything must be dense! I think i am just fascinated by the texture changes, honestly. But i need to branch out and so i will practice here. I have been drawing the pattern for practice.

My next WIP is a joint effort with a friend. She asked me to help her make a quilt! Her first one! I only work on this here so there won’t be a lot of progress updates.

I am also working on my friend’s wedding quilt (forgive the horrible night time photo). Unfortunately i fail at HSTs and will now spend hours trimming an additional 1/4″ off of all the blocks to make them work. Oh well. I roll with the punches!

This is the goal. Beautiful rainbow with a ton of text (dictionary pages) and some misc white in the background.

Last night i got fed up with the pinwheel corrections so I started a NEW wedding quilt! This was a stack-and-whack log cabin design i cut a few months back but hadn’t put together.

This is therapy quilting! Ha! I’ve never done wonky before. I’ve never done stack-and-whack before. Needless to say there were some issues. The blocks are not identical and are not the same as my original design and are a little smaller than I imagined… but who cares? You can’t tell for looking at them!

Finally, i have started a leaders/enders project. Eventually this will be a postage stamp quilt. The finished patchwork will be 1″. I am using all of my 1.5″ square and strip scraps for this.

So what about you? What are you working on?

Ps. I also just bought 8 1/2 yard cuts of Christmas fabric for $2.49/yard. Be jealous! Who knows what this will become…

About anestinthemaking

Hi! I'm Kristi! I'm a mom, a wife, a daughter, a friend. I'm a newbie to sewing and blogging, but I'm excited to get started! Sewing is the first hobby I've really had in a long time. In high school, I sang, I played the piano, I played in the band, I wrote in journals. I went off to college, got married, started a family, and lived a life without hobbies. How boring?! Then I started reading blogs. One thing led to another and soon I was at my co-worker's house borrowing her sewing machine! I haven't looked back since! Sewing is a release for me. It's so much fun to create beautiful and useful things. It's fun to be learning something new, and it's fun to share it with you! So welcome! Take a look around, and let me know you're here! I love to meet people and respond to every message I get! And I can't wait to meet you!

  1. I love your dense quilting on the star runner. I agree with the fascination of the textual change in the the finished piece much more character. I did a stack and whack once but don’t think I finished it. You have inspired me to look for it. Hmmmm
